INTRODUCTION
Hitherto, it was absolutely difficult for Mass Communicators to professionally identify themselves with any professional body of their discipline and field because of the non-existence of an organized and independent professional body which encompasses all options of the discipline (e.g. Broadcasting, Print, Public Relations, Advertising e t c) to regulate the conduct and activities of the profession. This problem of identification had lingered for long as a result of absence of a professional body to cater for Mass Communicators and Information managers.

It is in the light of the above, that the Institute of Mass Communication and Information Management of Nigeria (IMIM) was established by some nationally and internationally recognized and respected academicians, communicators and information managers of substance and proven integrity. The Institute is therefore poised to promote and encourage the study and development of the art of Mass Communication and Information Management which encompasses transmitting, informing, relating, educating, information management and entertaining the public with a view to inculcating professionalism and specialization in the Mass Communication Profession in Nigeria.

In view of this development, the institute has been mandated by the act establishing it to regulate the activities of communicators and information managers.
