FELLOW
This category is reserved absolutely for the founding members and few prominent individuals in the society who have proven outstanding ability and have contributed positively towards the enhancement of Mass Communication and Information Management, and related discipline as a profession or who has been in professional practice for a period of not less than 10 years with reputable and undoubted records. Fellowship of the institute is the highest in the hierarchy and the holder is entitled to use the abbreviation FIMIM after his/her name.
CERTIFIED MEMBERSHIP
The certified membership of the institute is mainly for all graduate (H.N.D, B.Sc, MSc, P.H.D) in relevant disciplines such as Mass Communication, Communication at Public Administration, Library and Information Science, Theartre Art, and International Relations and have acquired reasonable level of practical experience not less than 4 years. Also non-graduate in relevant discipline with accumulated experience(s) who have served and are still serving in management/directorship capacity are also qualified for the award of the institute's certified membership having met the necessary requirements for admission. The holders of the certified membership certificate of the institute can apply for fellowship of the institute after seven (7) years of proven, active demonstration and exhibition of professonalism and competence in his/ her specialized relevant field. These holders are entitled to use the abbreviation CIMIM after their names.
ASSOCIATE MEMBERSHIP
The Associate membership of the institute is awarded to:
- All graduates in relevant discipline as stated in certified who have genuinely acquired reasonable level of practical experience(s) and have been in active practice for a period of not less than 3 years are qualified to apply for this category.
- Non-graduates in relevant official assignment with a proven and certified record, who have served and are still serving in relevant fields are eligible to apply for associate membership. Holders of this are entitled to use the abbreviation of AIMIM
- To enhance holders of this category, the institute shall organize three days mandatory training programmes for all holders.
- To qualify for certified membership, holders of the
institute associate membership are mandated to present a paper subject to the approval of the examination council.
GRADUATE MEMBERSHIP
This category of membership is awarded to the following category of persons:
- Holders of H.N.D, B. Sc, M .Sc, in relevant disciplines.
- Members of other professional bodies such as NUJ, NIPR, etc.)
- ndividual(s) with cognate practical experience(s) in communication affairs or a related discipline below a B.Sc and H.N.D (e.g O.N.D). However, this is subject to council's approval.
Student membership of the institute is opened to all universities and polytechnic undergraduates of Mass Communication, Library and Information Science, International Relations, Theatre Art, and Public Administration. Members of this category shall qualify for Associate membership upon graduation after writing the institute's professional examination as approved by the council.
